About Big Brothers Big Sisters of Carleton- York (BBBSC-Y)

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Carleton-York has been providing services and programs to children and youth since 1982. We enable life-changing mentoring relationships to ignite the power and potential of young people ages 6 to 16 from Nackawic to Upper Kent.

We are fully self-supporting and raise all of our money through fundraising and community activities. B4K is our major fundraiser. The more we raise, the more we can do to provide the much-needed help to youth in our area.

What does BBBS C-Y do?

We facilitates both mentoring relationships which we refer to as ‘matches’ and provide programming.

Community and Site-Based mentoring is where Community matches ‘Bigs and Littles’ spend 6 to 8 hours a month together. With Site-Based matches our ‘Big’ meets with their ‘Little’ for one hour a week during school.

What programming do we offer?

‘Go Girls’ and ‘Game On’ are programs which both promote healthy habits, self-esteem, confidence building, mental wellness, peer support and volunteer skills among 10-13 year olds.

Thrive! is our summer camp in partnership with the Recreation Department of the Town of Woodstock. It promotes social connection, confidence, and creativity through art, games, and nature-based learning.

‘Big Bunch’ is our monthly group activity for young people in our programming and those on our waitlist. This allows the waitlisted youth to have support through group-based recreational programming while they await a mentor and to engage with other current matches seeing firsthand what secure, healthy relationships can look like. It is also an opportunity for adults interested in volunteering as a mentor to meet young people on our waitlist.

‘Mini Mentors’ is a BBBS C-Y pilot program that began in the summer of 2025 in response to many youth asking about how to become a mentor. In this program, older youth (ages 12–16) support younger peers (ages 8–11). This initiative is designed to foster early leadership, mentorship skills, and positive peer connection.
